Proper nutrition fuels pet health.

Feeding our felines is not just about filling up their bowls - it's about providing them with all the essential nutrients they need to thrive. But with so much information (and misinformation) out there, it can be tough to really know what's best for your pet.

Let's understand some of the myths and facts out there and get to know in detail what we need to follow and what we need to avoid so we aren't left so confused about what's really the best for our cats!

Busting the Myths

Myth 1.

Cat's can survive on a vegetarian or vegan diet.

Fact : That's incorrect.

Explanation :

  • Cat's cannot survive solely on a vegetarian diet.
  • Unlike Dogs who are omnivores (they can eat both plant and animal sources of protein) Cat's are strictly carnivores which means they need meat in their regular diet.
  • Their bodies need meet to survive and meet their nutritional needs, therefore don't try to make your cat a vegan or vegetarian!

Myth 2.

Wet food is always better than dry food

Fact : That's incorrect.

Explanation :

  • Both wet and dry food have their individual benefits for cats.
  • Wet food has a higher moisture content, low calories and carbohydrate content which makes it great for maintaining a healthy weight.
  • Wet food has a natural texture for cats, and it's smell is extremely enticing making our feline babies just drool.
  • Dry food is also very essential for our cats as it supports cat's natural grazing throughout the day, also promotes dental health preventing plaque and tarter buildup on teeth.

Therefore a balanced diet including both wet and dry food is essential for the wellbeing and optimal health of your cat.

Myth 3.

There is no difference between cheaper and premium brands in cat food.

Fact : That's incorrect.

Explanation :

  • The first major difference is "High Quality Ingredients". The premium brands charge us more only because they source high quality of meat and fish to make our cat's food.
  • The ingredients used in premium pet food is human grade, fresh and free of antibiotics & hormones.
  • These ingredients have abundant amount of vitamins and minerals which are ideal for your pet's health.

Myth 4.

Free feeding is the best way to feed our cats

Fact : That's incorrect.

Explanation :

  • Ad-Lib or free feeding your cats is very bad for their health.
  • Firstly, we understand if our cat is in distress or not based on their eating habits, that becomes impossible when food is left out all day for them which can lead to prolonged health issues.
  • Secondly, Free Feeding encourages overeating in cats, which results in heavy weight gain as free feeding is usually done with dry food, which is high in fat and calorie intake as well.
  • Heavy weight gain can lead to problems like  osteoarthritis and diabetes mellitus.

Myth 5.

Cat's love and should drink milk.

Fact : Yes!....That's incorrect.

Explanation :

This one's a bit weird, but yes.. cat's are lactose intolerant. Here's why you should never feed your cat's milk.

  •  The reason why cat's can't have milk or are lactose intolerant is their lack an enzyme called 'Lactase' in their intestines to digest the sugar present in the milk (Lactose).
  • Milk can cause vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach pain from drinking it for cats.
  • This was weird for me to hear too I always knew Cats = Milk, Dogs = Bones! But yes, if you really do want to give your cats milk, give them lactose free milk, I use Fairlife lactose free milk and my cat loves it!
